Future-proof gas condensing boiler: UltraGas 2 obtains H2-ready heating certification

Future-proof gas condensing boiler: UltraGas 2 obtains H2-ready heating certification

The UltraGas 2 is Hoval’s latest generation of gas condensing boilers. In addition to its proven benefits, the boiler is now officially certified for operation with up to 20% hydrogen (H2) in natural gas.

As a result, the unit already meets upcoming EU-wide legislation for sustainable heating that is fit for the future. The boiler’s compact design and multi-part installation also make it ideal for renovation and new-build projects.
The UltraGas 2 has been built ready for the ongoing energy transition with the motto “ready for future” in mind. The very latest generation obtained certification for operation with up to 20% hydrogen from the German Technical and Scientific Association for Gas and Water (Deutscher Verein des Gas- und Wasserfaches or DVGW for short) in June 2022. All gas condensing boilers from Hoval can already be operated with up to 100% biomethane. As such, the gas boiler already meets the requirements of future legislation.
With its flexible approach to fuel, the UltraGas 2 is both a safe investment and a commitment to sustainable heat supply for the future

Günther Köb, Director of Product Management for Gaseous and Liquid Fuels at Hoval

...explains Günther Köb, Director of Product Management for Gaseous and Liquid Fuels at Hoval, adding:

“For regenerative gaseous energy sources like hydrogen, for example, the existing infrastructure can be used or adapted relatively easily.”

Gas will therefore continue to be relied upon to supply heat for rooms and hot water even in the future.

A hybrid system for sustainable heating

The latest generation of gas condensing boilers is greener than ever before. As well as being able to run on sustainable alternative sources to gas, the UltraGas 2 from Hoval is also ideal for use as a hybrid system with regenerative heat sources. “Sustainable energy sources such as solar, pellets and heat pumps are very easy to integrate into the new generation of system boilers. This makes the UltraGas 2 even more ecological,” explains Mr Köb. Hybrid systems use a high proportion of renewable energy sources to facilitate economical and most importantly reliable operation with minimum carbon emissions.

Compact design is ideal for renovation projects

When designing the new generation of boilers, making the gas boiler as compact as possible was high on the agenda. Boiler models with outputs up to 500 kW are less than 800 mm wide – compact enough to fit through any standard door. This also makes them easier to install, because the boiler can be transported to its destination as individual components. “The boiler is easy to transport and takes up significantly less space. It is also simple to install and commission, and service and maintenance are a breeze too,” explains Günther Köb. This makes the UltraGas 2 the perfect choice for large-scale renovation and new-build projects.

The very latest generation of boilers from Hoval complete with certification for operation with up to 20% hydrogen will be available for delivery from 1 July 2022.
